The IB Assessment Approach

- Command terms — “analyse” means something different from “evaluate” or “discuss.” Know the IB command terms exactly.
- Diagram quality — in Economics, Geography, and Sciences, well-labelled, accurate diagrams score marks independently.
- Evaluation — IB rewards balanced arguments. Always consider both sides before reaching a conclusion.
- Real-world examples — abstract answers score lower than answers grounded in specific, named examples.
- Internal assessments — start early. The IA is worth 20–30% of your final grade in most subjects.
